Software Engineer, Azure Cosmic

The Azure Cosmic team designs, builds and operates a managed runtime environment based on a global scale Azure Kubernetes Service for the benefit of Microsoft service teams and developers.  We use an extensive mix of technology solutions including cloud-native, open source and internal Microsoft tools to provide the best possible experiences that we can for our customers.

As a Software Engineer II, you will work on designing, coding, validating, shipping, and running high scale services. You will collaborate with a dynamic team and contribute to all aspects of the stack, from agents running on servers and Kubernetes clusters to high-scale, globally distributed cloud services. You will integrate with other Azure services and create solutions using Go, Kubernetes, Linux, and open-source technologies.

Responsibilities
• Contributes to the design of large-scale distributed software services and solutions.
• Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios. 
• Identifies dependencies and generate design documents for a product, application, service, or platform; builds extensible and maintainable code. 
• Collaborates with developers and program managers throughout the development lifecycle (sprint planning, scrums, code reviews and live site management, etc.)  
• Participates in Livesite operations with emphasis on timely response, delivery & customer satisfaction.
• Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• 3+ years of experience working at high-paced environment in a software engineering role
• Technical engineering experience and proficiency coding in at least one language including, but not limited to, Go, C, C++, C#, Java or Rust
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field OR equivalent experience / courses.
• Experience with open-source projects, Kubernetes, Linux, and containers.
• Ability to work collaboratively across several teams and excellent problem-solving skills with ability to quickly adapt to new technology and go deep.
• Ability to engage in site-reliability engineering practices.

Other Requirements
• The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Go, C, C++, C#, Java or Rust
• Drive for delivering high quality implementations and designs while also working on testing and operational aspects of the service as well.
