As part of Growth Proposal Services, the Optum Health Proposal Writer collaborates with our UnitedHealth Group partners to help the business respond to requests for proposals (RFPs) in the commercial and public sector markets.

The Optum Health Proposal Writer reviews RFPs and related materials to understand customer needs. They then creatively apply customer, solution and sales strategy to develop high-quality proposals that are concise, complete and clear.

The Optum Health Proposal Writer must demonstrate effective time and project management skills, exhibiting focus and poise within a fast-paced, deadline-driven, collaborative environment where continuous communication is critical.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Write proposal responses for multiple markets by tailoring information from our content database and other company resources to accurately reflect solutions
• Partner with proposal team members to develop high-quality proposals that are responsive, accurate, concise and strategic, and align to Brand and proposal style guidelines
• Demonstrate customer-focused writing by incorporating win themes, value propositions, benefits, differentiators, proof points and opportunity information into proposal responses, executive summaries and cover letters
• Work closely with sales, solution and product partners to develop custom content
• Incorporate and unify feedback into drafts from many sources within established deadlines
• Develop relationships across multiple departments and senior management to foster collaboration, teamwork and quality results
• Organize, prioritize and manage competing deadlines across multiple proposals and projects
• Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills by expressing complex solutions simply
• Balance independent and collaborative work with solid accountability
• Maintain product knowledge through trainings and self-led learning
• Escalate potential challenges in a timely and appropriate manner
• Participate in workgroups to drive continuous improvements
• Apply coaching feedback to continuously improve and develop within role

Required Qualifications:
• 3 years of proposal writing experience, preferably in a complex organization
• Experience leading and speaking in large meetings with high-level staff
• Expert at proposal response development and customer-focused storytelling
• Demonstrates a natural command of language and understands AP Style guidelines
• Proven ability to thrive in a complex, fast-paced, deadline-driven corporate environment
• Proven ability to work with minimal guidance on complex tasks within a defined proposal process

Preferred Qualifications:
• APMP certification and/or participation in proposal industry groups
• Experience writing proposals within the health care and benefits industry
• Expertise navigating a content database to research common proposal questions

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
