Computer Museum of America (CMoA) is accepting applications for an Exhibit Designer.
CMoA is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of computing and its impact on our society. Through interactive experiences, educational programs, and engaging events, CMoA provides visitors with a unique opportunity to explore the evolution of technology and its profound influence on our lives. If you are passionate about museum design, this could be the launch pad of a great career! Computer Museum of America, located in Roswell Georgia is a 35000 sq.ft. museum set to expand to 55,000 sq.ft. The museum features many rare and seldom-seen artifacts of computer history. The museum is seeking an exhibit designer to aid in that expansion. The expansion includes a comprehensive exhibition Fifty Years of Innovation at Apple.
Work with the curator, archivists, creative director, writer, and other specialists, to develop exhibits that are engaging and informative. This will involve developing lists of assets relevant to an exhibit, researching background information, and developing ideas on how to present the artifacts in the most transformational way.
JOB DETAILS
This job requires great personal discipline, an enthusiasm for detail, a willingness to dive in and learn, and a creative flair for presenting complex relationships simply. The museum works with a variety of vendors to print, fabricate, and electrify exhibits. You will be part of a team that interviews vendors, writes project briefs, and monitors progress. We experiment and fail, learn, and we try new approaches until we succeed.
We also have fun interacting with many talented technology staff and volunteers that the museum draws in.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Creative Cloud, MS Office, especially Excel. Experience with Sketchup or other 3D modeling software is a big plus. Developing video and interactive media with outside contractors is also a part of this job. In addition, a good working knowledge of computers and technology history is needed. CMoA has a brand guide that we follow to keep a consistent look and a quality visitor experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Excellent command of written and spoken English
• BA or MA in graphic design, industrial design, museum studies, or related area
• 3-5 Years of professional experience in a design capacity
• Museum experience is highly valuable but not a must
• Remote work is encouraged, but weekly visits, sometimes multiple visits within a week to Roswell, are important for curator input and supervising exhibit installations.
