About the Position
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for all entities, including monthly reconciliations, journal entry processing, combination/consolidation, accrual review, current and deferred income tax reporting, and other tasks needed to complete the monthly financial reporting process. What Youll Do
As the Senior Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
Leadership and Team Management
• Provide coaching to staff accountants, offering context and explanations for complex transactions, and ensure appropriate delegation of responsibilities with the Assistant Controller group.
Revenue Recognition and Reporting
• Manage all aspects of revenue recognition, including premium recognition, earned and unearned revenue reconciliation, and adherence to US GAAP ASC 606, Revenue Recognition.
Accounts Receivable and Treasury Functions
• Monitor customer accounts for non-payments or delayed payments, providing support for collection efforts in line with US GAAP requirements.
• Oversee treasury functions such as managing deposits, ACH transitions, and check payments, coordinating with the Accounts Payable team.
Journal Entries and Reconciliations
• Handle regular journal entries, including monthly accruals, consolidation entries, intercompany balances, and other entries needed for financial reporting.
• Manage monthly bank reconciliations and daily cash management across all entities.
Investment and Fixed Asset Management
• Assist in managing company investment accounts, ensuring monthly reconciliations and compliance with US GAAP, GASB, and US Statutory accounting.
• Monitor and update the fixed assets schedule.
Financial Reporting and Audits
• Support the compilation, review, and filing of annual reports for company entities.
• Assist with the annual audit process, providing necessary information to external auditors, reinsurance partners, and regulators.
Other Key Responsibilities
• Monitor and record deferred items (e.g., premium receivables, direct bill balances, taxes) each month.
• Serve as back-up to other finance team members, including covering for Senior and Staff Accountants as well as the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams during absences.
What Were Looking For
Education and Experience
• Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 5+ years of related experience preferred.
• Pursuit of industry certifications (e.g., CPA) or advanced degrees (e.g., MBA) is highly encouraged.
Competencies
• Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, including US GAAP, GASB, and US Statutory reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, with the ability to quickly learn new systems.
• High ethical standards and detail-oriented, with a focus on meeting reporting deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Self-starter with effective organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
