Senior UX Researcher

As a Senior UX Researcher, you will support the Data Security & Privacy business… and develop an understanding of technical and non-technical users of the business to ensure that solutions are designed to meet their expectations. You will partner with your UX and Engineering partners to identify areas to improve user experience and help ensure that these experiences are trustworthy, valuable, and effective. Our team has a strong culture of innovation and creativity with many opportunities to influence and grow professionally. In this role you will work closely with an interdisciplinary research, design, and engineering team to define, and ultimately deliver future experiences for Microsoft Security.

Responsibilities
• Work closely with cross-functional product teams to develop a research strategy that includes generative and evaluative research, and ensure the right data is being collected to positively impact the product direction.
• Conduct a mixture of qualitative and quantitative research activities to inform product design, including but not limited to: usability studies, heuristic evaluations, interviews, surveys, user journey maps, benchmarks, and personas.
• Communicate your findings in a clear, concise, and visual (when appropriate) manner to our key stakeholders on the product and design teams, and drive meaningful action based on those findings.
• Create durable research insights that align with user-centered design principles and positively impact the Data Security & Privacy business.

A successful candidate must be able to collaborate well across Microsoft and diverse stakeholders, possess strong technical research skills, have a strong aptitude and interest in creating data-driven strategy, be interested in creating an inclusive environment, and understand how good design can create great products.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 5+ years User Experience Research experience
• OR Master’s Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 3+ years User Experience Research experience
• OR Doctorate in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 1+ year(s) User Experience Research experience
• OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including a demonstrated understanding of the strengths, tradeoffs and application of different methods (e.g., interviewing, ethnography, surveys, co-design, concept-testing, etc.) across the product cycle.
• Skill in observing and understanding human behavior and insights – fundamentally translating ideas, needs, and requests into researchable questions in a rigorous and valid way.
• Commitment to creating inclusive experiences and working in a manner that demonstrates respect for diversity and equality.
• Knowledge in distilling research into actionable narratives through creative and compelling frameworks and using engaging storytelling with cross-functional partners to drive impact.
• Experience with scoping, planning, and executing research including:
• Identifying opportunities for product development based on user needs
• Working across multiple research projects simultaneously
• Project management, organization, and planning skills with attention to detail
• Establishing and building cross-discipline relationships to maximize impact.
• Experience using one or more of the following relevant research tools, such as Usertesting.com, Dscout, UserZoom, Qualtrics, R, SPSS, or similar.

Preferred, Not Required
• Cybersecurity domain experience.
• Enterprise admin user domain expertise.
• AI domain expertise.
