Remote Database Administrator / DevOps Engineer | WFH

Job Overview

We are in search of a talented DevOps Engineer / Database Administrator to become an integral part of our innovative team. In this role, you will be pivotal in supporting a major client by managing their MySQL database, infrastructure, and DevOps operations. The successful candidate will possess substantial hands-on experience in database management, performance optimization, and… DevOps methodologies, while ensuring high-quality, responsive support in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Oversee and sustain MySQL 8 databases hosted on-premise.
• Execute routine maintenance tasks, including backups, recovery tests, and performance tuning.
• Diagnose and rectify database issues to minimize downtime and data loss.
• Employ indexing strategies and query optimizations to improve performance.
• Collaborate with the client’s managed service provider to synchronize maintenance tasks.
• Establish and configure performance monitoring tools such as Datadog or New Relic.
• Proactively monitor database performance and resource utilization.
• Create alerting systems for database health and critical metrics.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Manage deployment pipelines and maintain Git repositories.
• Assist developers in configuring and maintaining servers and databases.
• Support web infrastructure, including NGINX and VPN-accessed sites.
• Implement two-factor authentication solutions to enhance website security.
• Provide on-call support for emergency requests, with a 4-hour response time during weekends and after hours.
• Deliver priority support during business hours with response times within 24 hours.
• Investigate and address critical system outages or security incidents.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and internal teams to grasp project requirements.
• Document all configurations, changes, and processes for knowledge sharing.
• Communicate proactively with clients to keep them informed on issue resolution and project progress.

Required Skills
• Expert proficiency in MySQL (ideally version 8 or higher), with experience in tuning, troubleshooting, and backups.
• Solid grasp of DevOps principles, including CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and configuration management.
• Familiarity with both on-premises server environments and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools like Datadog or New Relic.
• Proficiency in Python, Bash, or other scripting languages for automation tasks.
• Knowledge of web technologies and practices for two-factor authentication security.

Qualifications
• 3-5 years of experience in a Database Administrator, DevOps Engineer, or comparable role.
• Proven experience supporting MySQL databases in production settings.
• Familiarity with performance tuning tools and methodologies.
• Previous experience in client-facing or consulting roles is advantageous.
