Primary Job Function:

The Client Portfolio Manager (CPM) acts as a partner with TIM’s Distribution & Portfolio Specialist team to ensure high quality engagement with clients and prospects. With exceptional client service/relationship building skills and demeanor, the CPM is the primary external voice and champion for TIM and its most important strategies and initiatives. The CPM will be well integrated into the firm’s sales and distribution channels, with direct responsibility for growing assets and retaining current AUM.

The Client Portfolio Manager is expected to play a lead role in new business development in all sales channels. The CPM will have responsibility for delivering results: sales (net & gross), platform placement, model portfolios, and success in defending assets.

The CPM will support the firm’s fixed income strategies. The role is location flexible, with heavy (70-80%) travel expected.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Client Portfolio Manager will be responsible for clearly communicating and articulating the firm’s investment process and research capabilities to our largest clients and prospects. The CPM will play a key role in building and maintaining strong relationships, cultivating, and nurturing our partners’ investment needs, risk tolerances, and financial goals.
• Communicates with an assigned set of clients to ascertain investment objectives and constraints, establish appropriate engagement, recommending and implementing TIM’s strategies.
• In addition to the TIM investment suite, maintains broad knowledge of current investment market, economic issues, manager selection and portfolio construction tends.
• Manages his/her client load with high client satisfaction and retention over multiple years, developing and executing long-term strategic and tactical plans to meet client objectives.
• Maintain knowledge of all relevant asset classes and serves as expert on TIM’s most commercially relevant strategies.
• Partner with distribution team to create a clear and actionable client feedback loop, helping develop timely and relevant themes that clients care about.
• Attends various investment meetings, industry conferences, and client meetings. Represent Thornburg at conference speaking engagements where appropriate.

Requirements
• MBA or CFA designation-preferred.
• FINRA Series 7 and 66 (or equivalent)- required.
• 7+ years’ experience in the investment management industry. Relevant experience can include portfolio management, direct sales, investment research, investment consulting, or institutional client service.
• Passion for the investment business with a deep understanding of investment concepts and strong working knowledge of strategies and tactics.
• Demonstrated track record of success in effectively communicating complex concepts to a wide variety of investor and consultant audiences around the globe.
• Exceptional relationship management skills and work well with portfolio managers, other investment professionals, and sales and client service professionals.
• Passion for achieving competitive results.
• Ability to promote information sharing and leveraging new ideas and best practices across the firm.
