About the Company
Our Client is a Leading Private Label and partly Branded Food Business operating across the commodity food categories, they have significant market share across most major retail customers from a Branded remit. However, through significant investment the opportunity now exists to lead their ambitious agenda across Private Label. They are now looking for someone to really grasp this opportunity and deliver volume share.
The successful candidate will in essence have the opportunity Strategically Drive the Channel Growth and develop the forward business plan in line with overall UK strategy, working alongside our Technical & NPD teams.
About the Role
Reporting to the Group Commercial Director, the role will operate at a senior level both internally and externally in which you will drive business performance within your accounts whilst acting as the “key lead” for Board Visible Strategic Initiatives. As the Commercial Controller you will be tasked with managing & building the total Retail Business Unit. In order to achieve this you will take ownership of driving a “change agenda” both internally and externally to the business.
Responsibilities
• 30% – Strategic Mapping & New Business Development
• 50% – Customer Focused
• 20% – Getting Close to NPD, Marketing & the Manufacturing Teams
Within this remit You will have full accountability for:
• All Senior Contacts within the Multiple Accounts; Involving working with key Trade Marketing Stakeholders, supporting launch of NPD, driving key events around Commercial Plans.
• Develop and help lead the vision for the Total Private Label Business; secure key stakeholder buy-in, including the board.
• Lead and develop a Commercial Strategic to deliver first class service and clear blue water within Major Retailer Channel.
• Provide a Vision for others to form key customers and suppliers, both trade and non-trade, securing existing business and winning new.
• Define the growth categories and consumer need states and energise the origination and delivery of innovation which maximise growth opportunities.
However- To begin with, this is a “Go To Market” Commercial Role. Whilst you will work alongside a growing commercial team- This not a High Man-Management role. Yes, you will be forming the strategy- but You will also be delivering it. Hence a “Hand on Approach” is an absolutely must.
But you will also have the opportunity to “Build Out” the team as the Channel grows. This role will be your building block to a 1-2 step career development curve with the business, which will ultimately see you reaching a Bigger Commercial role.
Candidate Requirements (Commodity Food Experience is Must)
Candidates must have gained strong Senior Commercial/Sales experience in a Commodity Food Product Business, either at Controller or SNAM level. The client is also open to “Retail Side” who have experience of Buying across “Commodity Products”. The role requires a real “can do” mentality alongside a creative flair for solution focused thinking inside a matrix framework. Finally, the role will need a huge amount of Drive and Passion for delivering real quality to the end consumer combined with a creative flair for delivering ground breaking Customer Solutions.
