NBS Technical Manager (Remote)

Our client is a pioneer in nature-based solutions at the forefront of regenerative agriculture and forestry. They partner with communities and farmers across Africa and South America to drive sustainable practices and transform these regions into thriving ecosystems. They are now growing their portfolio across Africa and South America, and are looking for someone to lead technical oversight of the projects.

The NBS Technical Manager can be based in Africa or Europe and operate remotely.

Role Overview:

We are looking for an NBS Technical Manager to lead the certification efforts and ensure the projects meet the highest carbon standards. This role will oversee the technical compliance of projects with methodologies from various standard bodies.

Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure projects meet or exceed certification standards like Verra, Gold Standard etc
• Perform technical assessments of new projects and partners
• Liaise with external auditors during validation and verification processes
• Stay updated on carbon standards, methodologies and best practices
• Advise on risks, mitigation strategies and project selection
• Engage with certification bodies, rating agencies and project stakeholders
• Manage teams of carbon project and technical experts across countries
• Prepare concise reports on project progress, carbon impact and certification
• Communicate complex technical information to diverse stakeholders
• Stay informed on carbon market trends and propose process improvements
• Manage certification processes like listing, registration, PDD review, monitoring and assurance

Qualifications and Experience:
• Degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Ecology or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in carbon projects across project development, technical management, certification or carbon ratings
• In-depth knowledge of standards like Verra, Gold Standard, Plan Vivo and CCPs
• Familiarity with nature-based solutions, agroforestry and regenerative agriculture
• Strong project management skills in a multi-geography, multi-cultural context
• Excellent communication skills in English and French
• Ability to occasionally travel to project sites in Africa and South America.
