Key Responsibilities
• Client Accounting & Financial Oversight
• Serve as primary accounting lead for multiple nonprofit clients, typically small to mid-sized organizations
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for client engagements
• Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, FASB nonprofit standards, and fund accounting principles
• Maintain and review restricted and unrestricted fund tracking
• Financial Reporting & Analysis
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements, dashboards, and variance analyses
• Present financial reports to client leadership, boards, and finance committees as needed
• Support budget development, cash flow forecasting, and financial planning
• Assist clients with grant reporting and donor-restricted fund compliance
• Compliance, Audit & Tax Support
• Coordinate and support annual audits, reviews, and compilations
• Serve as primary liaison with external auditors
• Maintain compliance with internal controls, policies, and best practices
• Client Advisory & Relationship Management
• Act as a strategic financial advisor to nonprofit leadership
• Identify process improvements and recommend scalable accounting solutions
• Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights
• Maintain strong, responsive client relationships and high service standards
• Team Leadership & Internal Operations
• Supervise and mentor staff accountants and senior accountants
• Review work product for quality, accuracy, and timeliness
• Assist with onboarding new clients and transitioning accounting systems
• Contribute to firm-wide process improvement and standardization efforts
Essential Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree or CPA is strongly preferred
• Experience in public accounting is strongly preferred, including audit work
• Experience in a role providing financial reporting for non-profits, associations, or similar organizations
• Extensive non-profit accounting experience
• Experience preparing 990s is strongly preferred
• Proficiency in Quickbooks Online and Excel
• Strong command of general accounting principles and ability to create, maintain and analyze P&L (accrual and cash basis), Balance Sheet, Cash flow, etc.
Strong communication skills; capable of presenting complex financial information in an easy-to-understand format to non-financial executives
