As a Content, Community & Search Strategist we expect you to produce excellent content marketing work that ranks well on search engines, gets cited by LLMs, earns upvotes on forums, and, most importantly, converts. Your content will live on clients’ websites, Reddit, in journalists’ articles, and across the rest of the Internet. You work alongside your colleagues and on individual projects while continuing to grow your ability to handle more complex accounts. This position requires strong copywriting skills, community instincts, SEO knowledge, and a love of telling a good story.
You sit above our Coordinators and Associates but below our Directors and Leadership team. You’ll have guidance from the Senior Director of Content, while taking ownership of larger accounts and mentoring less experienced members of the team.
Job Responsibilities
• We expect the job to be around 35% Community Content: Copywriting on forums and community management, focusing on Reddit.
• 30% Website Content & Search/LLM Optimization: blog posts, service pages, location pages, FAQs, and similar content optimized for search engines and AI engines
• 15% Link-Building & Citation Earning
• 10% Client Communication
• 5% Reporting
• 5% Always Optimizing to improve our agency’s processes and results
We focus on ethical, above-the-board content marketing. Any forum work is transparent about which brand is posting it. We believe AI can be used to make our humans more efficient, not replace them. We understand that search and (what was once called) SEO are a constantly changing world, but Google, forums, and LLMs end up with the same result: bringing users whichever content they believe will be most engaging. It’s your job to make that content and get it to our target audiences.
This role is strictly normal business hours. We do not handle community forum work after hours or on weekends. While we have physical offices in New Orleans and New York City, employees may work from any state, as long as they follow Eastern or Central time zones.
Who are we looking for?
If you’re looking for a place to grow where your work (and you) will be appreciated and rewarded, you’ll find a home at Online Optimism.
You must have at least:
• Experience posting on Reddit. (See, you always knew that would pay off!)
• Knowledge of the platform’s intricacies that goes beyond posting and upvoting. You should know how to create a Subreddit, the difference between mods and admins, what flair is, and be familiar with Reddit Pro features.
• A working understanding of SEO, as well as AEO and GEO. You don’t need to be an expert in everything, but you should be comfortable with keyword research, meta descriptions, on-site optimization, and how content gets surfaced (or cited) by AI engines.
• Strong copywriting instincts, with the ability to craft engaging content across formats and quickly shift tone for different clients and audiences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the confidence to walk a client through your strategy and reasoning.
• A strong ability to brush off criticism from the Internet. As much as we work on creating a great presence for our brands, haters gonna hate. Being great at shrugging it off and going onto the next post is key to succeeding in this role.
• A willingness to help less experienced Optimists grow. Strategists at our agency support our Coordinators, Associates and Specialists through editing, feedback, and the occasional Slack pep talk.
We understand there aren’t many folks with years of experience in Reddit marketing professionally, and we’re less concerned with finding that in your background. Strong writers, community builders, and folks who have experience with SEO, AEO, or content marketing campaigns tend to do well in this role.
You must have at least:
• 1–3 years of creating content marketing, SEO content, or social media in a professional setting for businesses or organizations.
• A portfolio showcasing previous content marketing, copywriting, or digital marketing work.
• A past (or current) job at a marketing agency working across a variety of clients.
• Previous experience communicating about marketing work with clients or stakeholders.
• A degree in English, marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, or a related field.
• Experience using SEO tools, particularly SEMrush or Google Search Console.
• Familiarity with analytics tools including Google Analytics 4 and Looker Studio.
• Experience with or curiosity about AEO tools like Profound or Otterly.AI.
• Familiarity with external Reddit tools like Gummysearch or RedReach.
• A love of Reddit and its community. If you remember Victoria, or came to Reddit from Digg, you’ve been here for a while. Time to get compensated.
The strongest candidates will have:
• 2-5 years of creating content marketing, SEO content, community content, or social media in a professional setting for businesses or organizations.
• A portfolio showcasing previous content marketing, copywriting, or digital marketing work, ideally including writing samples that performed well on a search engine, on Reddit, or in another forum.
• A past (or current) job at a marketing agency working across a variety of clients.
• Previous experience communicating about marketing work with clients or stakeholders, including presenting reporting and explaining strategy choices.
• Previous experience editing or mentoring other writers.
• A degree in English, marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field.
• Experience using SEO tools, particularly SEMrush or Google Search Console.
• Familiarity with analytics tools including Google Analytics 4 and Looker Studio.
• Experience with AEO tools like Profound or Otterly.AI (curiosity is welcome, but hands-on use is a plus at this level).
• Familiarity with external Reddit tools like Gummysearch or RedReach.
• Experience with link-building, digital PR, or earning citations through HARO, Qwoted, Featured, or similar services.
• A love of Reddit and its community. If you remember Victoria, or came to Reddit from Digg, you’ve been here for a while. Time to get compensated.
