A growing and well-established financial services organization is seeking a Vice President of Custodial Accounting to lead its custodial accounting function. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing accounting operations, managing a high-performing team, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and controls, and driving process improvements across the organization.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong accounting foundation, leadership experience, and a background in custodial accounting within the mortgage servicing or financial services industry.
Location: Remote, but candidates must reside in: FL, TX, SC, NC, OK, MI
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the Custodial Accounting team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to established controls and accounting policies.
• Oversee daily custodial accounting transaction processing activities.
• Review and approve accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and cash disbursement transactions within accounting and banking platforms.
• Monitor and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring timely resolution of outstanding items.
• Direct and review servicing loss and recovery transactions between corporate and custodial accounting functions.
• Prepare, review, and approve custodial bank reconciliations.
• Manage month-end close activities to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Investigate and resolve accounting and operational issues as requested by executive leadership.
• Partner cross-functionally with departments throughout the organization to support business initiatives and operational needs.
• Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal control frameworks.
• Ensure internal controls are properly designed, implemented, and operating effectively.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, risk reduction, and enhanced customer service.
• Support system enhancement projects, including testing and implementation efforts.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting controls.
• Proven leadership experience with responsibility for managing teams and deliverables.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
