Product Designer to feed 1m children – Volunteer

Want to design the product that could feed a million children a month? Then let’s talk. 1Gesture turns everyday business moments into micro-donations for verified charities, and we need a specialist product designer to shape how supporters choose a gesture.

What difference will you make?

Every gesture sends $0.50 directly to a verified charity. The number of gestures chosen is a direct function of how the product feels how clearly the cause lands, how trustworthy the partner badge feels, how frictionless the one-tap choice is, how the doubling moment lands, and how alive the impact feels afterwards.

A well-designed experience is the difference between a partner charity receiving fifty gestures a month and five thousand. Get the feeling right at scale, across thousands of business sponsors, and “a million meals a month” stops being a slogan and becomes arithmetic. That is the canvas. The founder previously helped fund the planting of 4.6 million trees through a prior venture. This one is wider.

The work you do in the next twelve months will, in large part, decide how much good flows through this platform. That is the offer not a portfolio piece, but fingerprints on a product whose decisions reach hundreds of thousands of lives.

What are we looking for?

A specialist product designer. Not a generalist who makes static screens and hands off a Figma file.

The honest filter if your craft ends at a beautiful artboard, this is not your role. If you lie awake over how a confirmation should feel, how a micro-interaction earns trust, and how a thousand tiny details add up to something that feels like magic, it is.

Specifically, you will have

• Three or more years designing and shipping real digital products as a product designer, in-house, agency, or freelance. This is essential.
• A portfolio that shows feeling and flows, not just final visuals. We want two or three case studies where we can see how you made decisions and how the result felt to use.
• Fluency in emotional design micro-interactions, motion, feedback loops, and the psychology of why people come back. You can name what you would do to make our impact dashboard feel alive.
• Comfort designing end-to-end journeys, and ideally getting into code (or partnering tightly with a developer), because some things only reveal how they feel once they are real.
• The instinct to design for specific people, not the average user, and the spine to push back on the founder when the evidence points the other way.

What pulls you should be the impact. If the line at the top of this post made something jump in you, you are probably the person we are looking for. If it did not, the role will likely not fit.

Nice to have, not essential experience with donation, payment, or fintech flows, charity or social-enterprise work, and brand or motion alongside product design.

Remote

What will you be doing?

1Gesture turns everyday business moments into micro-donations for verified charities. When a professional meets someone using 1Gesture, the recipient chooses a small gesture of good (feed a school child for a week, clean water for a family, plastic bottles removed from the environment) and the sponsoring business funds it. Every gesture is $0.50, ring-fenced to one of our founding charity partners. We are pre-launch, and the product you design is the thing that decides whether a supporter chooses a gesture, doubles it, or joins the movement and keeps the flywheel spinning.

To be upfront, our branding and website are actively in development right now, so you would be shaping the supporter experience while the brand and site are still taking form. That is the opportunity here, not a caveat you get to influence the foundations rather than decorate something already set.

So this is not a cosmetic job. The supporter experience is the conversion mechanism, and conversion here is measured in meals, clean water, and plastic bottles removed from the environment.

At its core, our product is an emotional design problem. The same kind of work that made Duolingo impossible to put down, made Phantom turn scary crypto into something that feels human, and made Revolut’s charts something you feel rather than read. We need someone who can make a person feel the meal they just funded, not show them a number.

You would own the moments that carry that feeling

• The gesture-choice moment the one-tap decision where intent becomes a funded act of good.
• The doubling moment the small prompt that can double a charity’s income, and has to land emotionally, not naggingly.
• The live impact dashboard where a supporter should feel the cumulative good they have done, the way Revolut makes you feel your spending. This is the heart of the product, because people are here for impact.
• The onboarding journeys for businesses and charities, where trust is won or lost in the first ten seconds.

And once we launch the MVP, the work shifts from intuition to evidence. The data will tell us exactly where supporters hesitate, drop off, or convert, and you would lead the design tweaks that optimise for impact. The first version is a hypothesis. The real craft is reading what people actually do and iterating until the numbers that matter, gestures chosen and meals funded, move.

You will work directly with the founder, with full creative latitude inside the brand, and partner closely with our developer on what ships.
