The Medicaid/Medicare Staff Accountant 3 will prepare and review complex Medicaid cost reports, analyze financial data, and support process improvements while ensuring compliance with regulations.ResponsibilitiesPrepare, review, and finalize complex Medicaid cost reports and supplemental payment program filings (e.g., GEMT, ASPP, or similar programs), ensuring compliance with federal and state regulationsAnalyze revenues and expenditures to determine appropriate classification, allowability, and allocation for cost reporting purposesResearch and interpret accounting guidance, program regulations, and cost principles (e.g., Uniform Guidance) to support proper reporting and audit responsesReconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances, trends, and unusual transactionsCoordinate with clients to obtain supporting documentation, clarify transaction details, and resolve discrepanciesAssist with external audits by preparing schedules, workpapers, and written explanationsDocument accounting conclusions and methodologies to support transparency and audit readinessSupport process improvements related to cost reporting, reconciliations, financial controls, and policy and proceduresCommunicate on a regular basis with clients via meetings and emailResponsibilities may change as the department and PCG grow and as deemed necessary by managementSkillsBachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field; Master’s degree in Accounting or related field preferredExperience with Medicare regulations and reimbursement manualExperience with applicable Federal and State Medicaid policies and regulations relating to healthcare reimbursementExperience working with audits and regulatory reviewsMinimum 2-4 years with accounting experienceAbility to analyze account fluctuations and year-to-year variancesAbility to identify unusual items or issues and to correct them going forwardEnsure reporting is consistent with generally accepted accounting (GAAP) and government accounting standard board (GASB) principlesEffective ability to prioritize and manage multiple activity streamsExcellent organizational skills, verbal, and written communication skillsAbility to analyze complex financial data and clearly communicate conclusions in writing and verballyStrong written communication skills for workpapers and audit responsesProficiency in Microsoft applications, especially Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data analysis)Possess discretion to work with confidential information1-2 years’ experience with Medicaid and/or Medicare cost reports, grant reporting, or regulated reimbursement programsFamiliarity with government accounting principlesCPA or progress toward CPA licensureBenefitsMedical and dental care benefits401kPTOParental leaveBereavement leaveCompany OverviewPublic Consulting Group is a consulting company offering management consulting services to public sector organizations and entities.
