Senior WordPress / SharePoint Developer
6+ month contract, remote, EST hours
Summary
We are seeking a Senior WordPress Developer to help lead the migration of hundreds of enterprise SharePoint websites to a scalable WordPress platform. This role is focused on building reusable WordPress frameworks, custom Gutenberg blocks, plugins, and API integrations—not simply creating websites. The ideal candidate has extensive experience developing custom WordPress products, building React-based Gutenberg components, architecting plugins from scratch, and translating complex SharePoint functionality into scalable WordPress solutions.
Responsibilities
• Lead the migration of complex SharePoint websites to a custom WordPress platform
• Design, develop, and maintain reusable WordPress frameworks and components
• Architect and build custom Gutenberg blocks using React and the WordPress Block API
• Develop custom WordPress plugins from the ground up to extend platform functionality
• Design and integrate REST APIs between WordPress and enterprise backend systems
• Collaborate with developers, UI/UX designers, and professional services teams to replicate complex SharePoint functionality within WordPress
• Build scalable, responsive, and accessible front-end experiences using React and modern JavaScript
• Optimize WordPress performance across PHP, JavaScript, database, and application layers
• Participate in architecture discussions and recommend scalable product-based solutions
• Manage source code using Git while participating in code reviews and collaborative development
• Troubleshoot complex application issues and support ongoing platform enhancements
• Document framework architecture, custom plugins, deployment processes, and development standards
Must-Have Qualifications
• 5+ years of professional WordPress development experience
• Proven experience migrating websites from SharePoint to WordPress
• Extensive experience building custom WordPress plugins from scratch
• Strong experience developing custom Gutenberg blocks using React
• Strong React development experience
• Experience designing reusable WordPress frameworks and modular components
• Strong proficiency with PHP, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3
• Experience developing and integrating REST APIs
• Experience working with Git in collaborative development environments
• Strong understanding of WordPress architecture, security, and performance optimization
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience building enterprise-scale WordPress platforms
• Experience with Bootstrap or other CSS frameworks
• Experience integrating third-party APIs such as CRM, analytics, or enterprise applications
• Experience with Web Components (Stencil, LitElement, etc.)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

The salary range for this position is 50/hr to 62/hr. Benefits available to contract/temporary professionals, include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance.
