About the Role
A nonprofit organization that has served Maine’s island and Downeast coastal communities since 1905 is hiring a Marketing Director to lead brand strategy, communications, design, and public relations. The organization strengthens coastal and island communities by educating youth, supporting families, and promoting good health.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Marketing Director aligns marketing activities with the organization’s purpose, values, and programs to build support among donors across Maine and nationally. The role creates and oversees engaging written and designed content, maintains an integrated marketing approach across all channels, and tells the compelling stories of the people and communities served. The position also provides direct support to the COO.
What the Role Covers
• Bringing the organization’s brand, style, messaging, and visual storytelling guidelines to life
• Publishing strategic communications including a magazine, website content, print and digital collateral, and digital newsletters
• Maintaining and overseeing marketing initiative planning, delivery, and evaluation within budget
• Writing and editing compelling narrative articles (250 to 800 words), campaign briefs, and press releases
• Designing content for use across print, website, social media, digital marketing, newsletters, and events
• Building and sending monthly email newsletters via MailChimp or Constant Contact
• Maintaining the website’s content and monitoring traffic and SEO analytics
• Managing institutional social media accounts daily, posting content, responding to messages and comments, and capturing analytics
• Executing earned media and news release initiatives and relationships
• Managing the media library and editing photos as needed
Qualifications
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, new media, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Three years of experience in the field
• Graphic design skills with experience in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere)
• Digital photography and photo editing experience
• Social media content management and mastery of Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, and YouTube
• Experience with WordPress and MS Office
• Knowledge of SEO practices and analytics
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to interview a broad variety of people with sensitivity
• Must be available for occasional evenings, weekends, and travel to organizational locations and events
• Must be comfortable getting on and off boats in a variety of docking situations
Preferred
• Two years of experience managing others
• Video production skills
• Familiarity with Washington County, island living, or isolated communities
• Bilingual or conversational Spanish
