Book Keeper for a young dynamic Charity – Volunteer

Help tackle bed poverty by supporting the financial management of Mr Motivator’s Bed Bank. We’re looking for a volunteer Bookkeeper to help maintain accurate records, support financial reporting and ensure every pound raised helps children access a safe place to sleep.

What difference will you make?

Your support will help ensure that Mr Motivator’s Bed Bank has the strong financial foundations needed to grow its impact and tackle bed poverty across the UK.

As a small charity, we rely entirely on donations, fundraising and partnerships to fund our work. By helping us maintain accurate financial records, monitor income and expenditure, and strengthen our financial processes, you will enable us to make informed decisions and demonstrate accountability to donors, funders and stakeholders.

Your contribution will directly support our ability to raise funds, launch our grant-making programme and provide financial assistance to organisations working with children and families who do not have a safe place to sleep.

Beyond the financial tasks themselves, your expertise will help us build confidence in our systems, improve our governance and create a solid platform for future growth. This will allow the team to focus on raising awareness of bed poverty, influencing change and supporting more children in need.

Ultimately, your work behind the scenes will help ensure that every pound raised can be managed effectively and directed towards making a difference for children and families experiencing bed poverty.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a volunteer with bookkeeping, finance or accounting experience who is passionate about using their skills to support a growing charity.

The ideal volunteer will have experience maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, processing income and expenditure, and producing financial reports. Experience with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or similar would be beneficial.

We are particularly interested in volunteers with an understanding of charity finance, including

• Charity SORP principles and good financial governance
• Restricted and unrestricted funds
• Managing and recording donations and grant income
• Gift Aid administration and reporting
• Financial controls and compliance requirements

Key qualities include

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Good organisational and record-keeping skills
• The ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively
• Integrity and discretion when handling sensitive financial information
• Good communication skills and the ability to explain financial information clearly
• A commitment to supporting our mission to tackle bed poverty

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who can help us build our systems and processes, maintain robust financial systems and ensure that every pound raised is managed responsibly and has the greatest possible impact for children and families in need.

Remote

What will you be doing?

As our Volunteer Bookkeeper, you will play a vital role in helping Mr Motivator’s Bed Bank manage its finances effectively and responsibly as we work to tackle bed poverty across the UK.

Working closely with the Treasurer and wider team, you will help maintain accurate financial records, record income and expenditure, process invoices and payments, and reconcile bank accounts. You will also support the tracking of donations, grants and restricted funds, ensuring funds are allocated and recorded correctly.

Mr Motivator’s Bed Bank, founded by Derrick Evans MBE better known as Mr Motivator is a growing charity. Good financial information is essential to helping us make informed decisions and maximise our impact. You will help prepare regular financial reports, support budgeting and forecasting activities, and assist with year-end financial processes where required.

We are looking for someone who can help establish and maintain strong financial controls, identify any discrepancies or risks, and ensure our financial records remain accurate, organised and compliant with charity and regulatory requirements.

This is an opportunity to use your bookkeeping skills to support a charity making a real difference to children and families affected by bed poverty. Your contribution will help ensure that donations and fundraising income are managed effectively, allowing more resources to be directed towards our mission of providing children with a safe place to sleep.

You will join our warm, friendly and collaborative team who are passionate about creating social change. While the role will be carried out remotely, there will be opportunities to contribute ideas, support our growth and help shape the financial systems that will enable the charity to expand its impact in the years ahead.
