ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a Level 1 role with a Level 2 runway.

You will be the first set of hands on tickets coming into the Modern Workspace practice: end-user support, Microsoft 365, endpoints, and identity. You will own the day-to-day queue and resolve most of what comes at you. When something escalates past you, you stay on it with a senior engineer instead of handing it off and walking away. That is how you learn our environments and how you move up.

We are being direct about who this is for. If you are a strong Level 1 who has been reading ahead, or a Level 2 in an in-house IT role who wants to work across dozens of environments instead of one, this is a good fit.

What you will do:
• Work and resolve Level 1 tickets and service requests through HaloPSA, with clear documentation and clear client communication on every one.
• Support Microsoft 365 day to day: Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Intune.
• Handle user and identity work in Entra ID and on-premises Active Directory: accounts, groups, licensing, MFA, conditional access, group policy, and DNS.
• Triage and remediate alerts from NinjaOne RMM and Auvik before they turn into outages.
• Support Windows 10/11 workstations and Windows Server 2019/2022, including patching and routine maintenance.
• Escalate cleanly. When a ticket needs a senior engineer, you bring the diagnosis, not just the symptom, and you stay involved through resolution.
• Keep documentation accurate. Our closed tickets feed our knowledge base, and you will review what your work produces.
• Use AI tooling and prompt engineering to enrich tickets, speed up research, and automate repetitive tasks.
• Participate in the on-call rotation, roughly once every five to six weeks.

Where this goes:

We promote from this seat into Modern Workspace Engineer II.The path is defined, not vague:
• You are assigned to a competency practice, not just a queue, so you build real depth in Microsoft 365, identity, or endpoint management.
• Escalations are a training mechanism here. You work them alongside senior engineers rather than losing them.
• We pay for your Microsoft certification exams and give you study time on the clock.
• Progression is tied to demonstrated capability, and we review it on a set cadence. We do not make you wait for someone to leave.

What you need:
• 2+ years in technical support, help desk, or in-house IT. MSP experience is a plus but not required.
• Hands-on Microsoft 365 administration: creating and managing users, licensing, mailboxes, Teams, SharePoint permissions, and OneDrive.
• Working knowledge of Active Directory and Entra ID. You should be comfortable with users, groups, group policy basics, DNS, and MFA.
• Solid Windows 10/11 workstation troubleshooting and enough Windows Server exposure to be useful.
• Comfort with ticketing systems and the discipline to document as you go.
• Ability to explain a technical problem to a non-technical person without making them feel small.
• Organization and context switching. You will move between client environments many times a day and accuracy cannot slip when you do.
• Proven ability to work in a fully remote team, balancing independence with staying reachable and visible.
• Reliable high-speed internet and a quiet, dedicated work space.

What will set you apart:

None of these are required. Every one of them will move you up our list and shorten your path to Engineer II.
• Intune and Endpoint Manager experience: enrollment, compliance policies, configuration profiles, app deployment.
• Azure exposure, especially hybrid setups where on-premises AD and file services connect to the cloud.
• Conditional access and MFA policy work, or any real Zero Trust implementation experience.
• Microsoft Defender for Business, Defender for Office 365, Purview, or application control tooling such as ThreatLocker.
• PowerShell scripting, even at the level of “I automate my own repetitive work.”
• Networking fundamentals across Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, or Ubiquiti.
• Backup and recovery experience, particularly Veeam.
• Basic Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop familiarity.

Who does well in this role:

• You document well because you understand the next person needs it, and sometimes that person is future you.
• You pick up new technology quickly and you are genuinely interested in AI as a tool rather than suspicious of it.
• You care about getting it right more than getting it done fast, and you know when those two are in conflict.
• You raise your hand early when you are stuck instead of burning three hours quietly.
