Parity Education is seeking a calm, technically confident and relationship-focused Specialist SEND Tutor to deliver an individualised online 1:1 transition provision for a young person preparing for a future web-design or related digital apprenticeship.
The learner has engaged successfully through online tuition and benefits from predictable routines, written and visual instructions, practical digital production and a low-pressure approach to communication. The provision will build from this secure base, combining web-design projects with applied English and mathematics, employability, portfolio development and increasing independence.
The learner is autistic and has ADHD, anxiety, sensory sensitivities and communication differences. They may communicate through typed chat, shared documents, screenshots or demonstrations, particularly when anxious. The successful tutor must recognise these as valid forms of engagement and avoid placing pressure on the learner to speak, use a camera, make eye contact or respond immediately.
This role requires confident practical knowledge of web design and digital project work. It may suit an experienced tutor with strong digital skills or a web designer, developer or digital practitioner who has experience teaching, mentoring or supporting young people. Parity Education will provide induction, regular guidance, supervision and SEND-focused professional development.

Duties
• Design and deliver a structured, practical 1:1 online programme that supports progression towards web-design training or a related digital apprenticeship.
• Teach and apply core web-design skills, including HTML, CSS, responsive layouts, images, navigation, accessibility, copyright, testing and appropriate introductory JavaScript or interactive features.
• Support the learner to build a secure, organised portfolio containing project briefs, plans, prototypes, completed sites, testing evidence, feedback and reflection.
• Break projects into small, achievable stages, showing only the current and next step and using written instructions, worked examples, screen-sharing and visual checklists.
• Use typed chat, shared documents, screenshots, recorded demonstrations and other agreed communication methods alongside speech, without treating verbal participation as the only evidence of learning.
• Build applied English and mathematics into authentic digital work, including interpreting briefs, professional emails, content writing, budgeting, pricing, dimensions, percentages, analytics and time estimates.
• Develop employability and apprenticeship-readiness skills through CV and application work, professional communication, task planning, deadlines, portfolio presentation and carefully structured employer-style briefs.
• Maintain a predictable, low-arousal online environment, give advance warning of changes and adapt pacing and communication when the learner becomes anxious, overloaded or unable to respond.
• Support attention, organisation and independence through a simple digital project board, clear file-management routines, planned breaks and consistent review habits.
• Maintain accurate, professional records of engagement, progress and next steps, contributing to regular reviews and adapting provision through reflective practice.
Experience
• Confident practical web-design skills, including HTML and CSS, responsive design and website testing. Familiarity with accessibility and introductory JavaScript is highly desirable.
• Experience teaching, tutoring, coaching or mentoring digital skills, web design, computing or project-based learning to young people.
• Some relevant experience supporting autistic young people and/or learners with ADHD, anxiety, sensory needs or communication differences.
• A calm, warm and consistent approach, with the patience to build trust and accept written, visual or non-speaking communication without pressure.
• The ability to explain technical concepts slowly and clearly, break down multi-step instructions and check genuine understanding rather than relying on fluent reading or a simple yes/no response.
• Confidence using online tuition, screen-sharing, shared documents, digital task boards and secure file-management systems.
• The ability to connect learning to the learner’s interests and future pathway while maintaining appropriate challenge, clear boundaries and realistic expectations.
• Adaptability, reliability and a willingness to work collaboratively, reflect on feedback and develop specialist SEND practice.
• Teaching qualifications are welcome but are not essential where the applicant can demonstrate strong subject knowledge and relevant teaching, mentoring or support experience.
• Strong safeguarding awareness, professional boundaries and an understanding of online safety, privacy and appropriate digital communication.
Applicants should be able to provide examples of relevant web-design or digital project work and explain how they would make technical learning accessible to an individual learner.
Pay: £25.00 – £30.00 per hour (self-employed contractor basis, paid fortnightly)
