Remote Accounts Manager – UK Accounting & Tax

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced accountant who is ready to take the next step into a management role.

You will manage a small, self-contained accounting team supporting UK-based clients. Our firm specialises exclusively in providing professional services to businesses within the UK dental industry.

The role is primarily focused on UK accounts and corporation tax, with opportunities to develop your experience in personal tax, management accounts and tax planning.

You will be responsible for your team’s workflow, quality, performance and development, while remaining technically involved in the work yourself. You will also act as the main communication link between your team and our UK-based team.

This is an ideal opportunity for an accountant who already has experience managing or leading junior staff and is ready to take greater ownership within a growing business.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage, support and develop a small team of accounting professionals.

• Allocate work and manage workflow, workloads and deadlines.

• Monitor team performance and ensure work is completed accurately and on time.

• Review accounts, tax returns, bookkeeping and management accounts.

• Provide clear, constructive and actionable feedback to team members.

• Identify training needs, errors and opportunities to improve quality and efficiency.

• Act as the first point of escalation for technical and workflow queries.

• Prepare and/or review accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.

• Prepare and/or review UK self-assessment and other relevant tax returns.

• Prepare and/or review interim management accounts.

• Oversee periodic bookkeeping work.

• Work with cloud accounting software, particularly Xero.

• Provide client support where required, including Xero training.

• Keep the UK team regularly updated on workload, progress, deadlines, issues and resource requirements.

• Ensure information and instructions are communicated effectively between the UK team and your pod.

• Attend regular meetings with the UK team.

• Identify and implement improvements to processes and efficiency.

• Support wider business requirements and ad-hoc tasks as necessary.

Essential Experience & Skills

UK accounting and tax experience is essential.

You should have:

• Strong practical experience of UK accounting requirements and UK tax legislation.

• Previous experience managing or leading junior staff.

• Experience reviewing work and providing constructive feedback.

• Experience managing workflows and deadlines.

• Excellent written and spoken English.

• Strong organisational and communication skills.

• The ability to work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities.

• Confidence in making decisions, resolving issues and escalating problems when necessary.

An accounting qualification such as AAT, ACCA, ACA or equivalent is desirable, although relevant professional experience will also be considered.

Candidates whose accounting and tax experience is exclusively outside the UK and who do not have strong working knowledge of UK tax will not be suitable for this role.

Remote Working

This is a fully remote position. You will need:

• Reliable, high-speed internet.

• A suitable private and professional workspace.

• Reliable access to video calls and online meetings.

• The ability to work consistently during UK working hours.

• Suitable backup arrangements for internet or equipment issues where reasonably possible.

• Your own equipment and internet connection maintained to an appropriate professional standard.

You will also be responsible for maintaining an appropriate working structure in relation to applicable taxation, GDPR and inter-jurisdictional requirements.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is technically capable, organised and naturally takes ownership.

You should be confident managing people, reviewing work and maintaining high standards, while also being comfortable getting involved in the technical detail yourself.

You will need to be proactive when work is falling behind, confident giving feedback, supportive of junior colleagues and comfortable communicating issues clearly to the UK team.

Most importantly, we want someone who is dependable, commercially aware and committed to delivering excellent work for our clients.
