They are seeking a strategic, detail-driven Controller on a fractional, part-time basis to own the integrity of their financial function and deliver insightful reporting and controls.
Responsibilities
• Ownership of the monthly and quarterly close, financial statements, and budget-to-actual reporting
• General ledger oversight, chart-of-accounts architecture, and clean entity separation
• Cash-flow management, forecasting, and financial planning support
• Internal controls design and audit-readiness consistent with private foundation compliance (minimum distribution, self-dealing, excise tax awareness)
• Program and disbursement tracking, including documentation for restricted vs. unrestricted activity
• Coordination of Form 990-PF preparation and the annual audit with outside CPAs and auditors
• Oversight of transactional bookkeeping (AP/AR, reconciliations, journal entries), performed in-house or via junior/outsourced support
• Financial policy, recordkeeping standards, and process improvement as the foundation scales
Skills
• 10+ years in accounting or finance, including controllership or senior accounting responsibility
• Working knowledge of private foundation rules and Form 990-PF (or demonstrated ability to learn and ramp up quickly)
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and strong Excel/reputed company Sheets skills
• Exceptional discretion and comfort handling confidential financial information
• A self-directed operator who can move between hands-on execution and higher-level financial oversight
• Bachelor’s in accounting or finance required
• Nonprofit or foundation experience strongly preferred
• CPA strongly preferred
• Some proficiency in AI (we are prepared to teach and upskill)
