About the project
I’m looking for a talented freelance character designer / illustrator to help bring to life the visual identity for an upcoming UK beauty accessories brand.
The brand is currently in development and has a clear creative direction. I have already developed the character concept, aesthetic and mood references, and now looking for the right artist to translate this vision into a polished, original character (with potential for a range of characters in future).
The aesthetic is feminine, fashion-led and bold, drawing inspiration from cute Y2K/pop culture, fashion dolls, and editorial beauty. Think Bratz for the aesthetic and Aya takano for that character universe lead but with a modern, elevated, Gen Z and original twist.
This is a collaborative project rather than a completely blank-slate brief, you’ll be given detailed references and direction, with room to bring your own artistic style and expertise to the execution.
The initial project
The first commission will focus on developing and finalising one original brand character.
Deliverables will include:
• Developing the character from an established creative direction
• Refining facial features, hair, eyes, styling, portions and key details
• Creating a polished, high-resolution final character illustration
• 1-2 rounds of revisions
• Artwork supplied in suitable digital formats for future commercial brand use
This project starts at a fixed fee of £250 but there will be many opportunities for further paid illustration and character work as the brand develops , including additional assets and characters.
I’m looking for someone who:
• Has a strong and distinctive illustration/character design style
• Has experience with character design, fashion/beauty illustration or doll-inspired artwork
• Understand and is inspired by Y2K, pop culture and contemporary fashion aesthetics
• Can take a detailed creative brief and bring it to life
• Is collaborative, reliable and open to feedback
• Has strong attention to detail
• Is genuinely excited by the aesthetic and interested in working on a growing brand, creating a character universe.

Budget:
£250 fixed fee for the initial character design project, including agreed revisions. This is an early-stage independent brand, so the initial project has a limited fix budget. There is potential for further paid work as the brand develops and many more project opportunities.
