I am looking for an experienced Shopify developer who can develop a small custom solution for my webshop.
My webshop sells warehouse shelving. Shipping costs depend on the longest product variant in the order, not on the number of products.
Currently, I use multiple shipping profiles. However, Shopify adds up the shipping costs of different profiles, whereas I specifically want to calculate only the highest shipping rate.
Current Situation
Example:
• Product A (80 cm) → €39 shipping
• Product B (160 cm) → €59 shipping
• Product C (320 cm) → €99 shipping
When a customer orders A + C, Shopify calculates:
€39 + €99 = €138
That is incorrect.
The desired outcome is:
€99
Therefore, only the highest shipping rate is always applied.
How the logistics work
We transport warehouse shelving on pallets.
The longest beams or uprights determine the required pallet length. The remaining products are almost always stacked on the same pallet.
Therefore, in approximately 95% of orders, only the longest length determines the transport costs.
Desired logic
Every product variant has a length.
For example:
80 cm
200 cm
250 cm
320 cm
400 cm
480 cm
The application must:
1. Read all variants in the shopping cart.
2. Determine the greatest length.
3. Select exactly one shipping rate based on that. shipping rates:

The length is already listed in the product variants.
For example:
Height: 400 cm
or
Length: 320 cm
If it is technically simpler, a metafield may also be used for this.
Manually entering a transport length per variant is not a problem. Technical requirements
• Shopify Basic
• No Shopify Plus
• As few external monthly costs as possible
• Simple maintenance
• We must be able to easily adjust the rate table ourselves later.
Important
I am not looking for a generic shipping app.
I am looking for a small custom solution that executes exactly the logic described above.
I am open to:
• Shopify App
• Shopify Function (if possible)
• My own backend
• Other smart solution
as long as it works with Shopify Basic.

The developer will handle:
• development

• testing
• documentation so that I can adjust rates myself later.
