The role involves overseeing the Accounting Department, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and guiding financial decisions to support the company’s strategic objectives.ResponsibilitiesOversees the operation of the Accounting Department, which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and payrollMaintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize riskGuides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and proceduresProtects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controlsOversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standardsRecommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performanceProduces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to managementProvides financial analysis to assist Executive Leadership with decisions on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiationsWorks with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual auditFiles quarterly and annual reports as neededFiles initial and annual state corporate registrations, SUTA account set up, follow up registrations and other state mandated requirementsEnsures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirementsEnsures effective communication and issue escalation across stakeholdersCollaborates cross-functionally to create and/or update plans, budgets, and procedural documents, as applicablePerforms other duties as assigned by managementSkillsBachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration requiredTen (10) or more years of related accounting/finance experience requiredExperience with financial reporting requirementsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionExcellent organizational skillsExcellent management and supervisory skillsComputer competency (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe)Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsMeticulous attention to detailSeveral years in CRO or biopharma industry accounting experience preferredCompany OverviewCognitive Research Corporation is a contract research organization that specializes in Central Nervous System product development.
