[Remote] Senior Vice President of Finance & Operations

The Senior Vice President of Finance & Operations will oversee financial stewardship, operational infrastructure, and people management, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities and long-term sustainability.ResponsibilitiesDesign, improve, and optimize organizational systems and processes across finance, HR, legal, and technologyManage relationships with outsourced vendors, including general counsel, HR law, IRS/campaign compliance, and other external advisorsCoordinate Board of Directors administration and logistics, including monthly updates, scheduling, virtual votes, minutes, and resource reputed companyServe as the internal resource on administrative policies and proceduresOversee the organization’s technology stack, including software tools, subscriptions, and vendor contractsOversee organizational insurance policies, confirm all liability needs are met, and maintain vendor relationshipsOversee IRS compliance, campaign finance, and lobbying compliance filings across affiliated 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities, including tracking lobbying expenditures, ensuring proper expense allocation between entities, and coordinating with outside compliance counselDirectly manage the Senior Project Manager, leveraging their support across admin, finance, and operations activitiesGrow the organization’s culture to support staff well-being, sustainability, and long-term effectiveness, reputed company with the Managing DirectorOrganize and support staff meetings, virtual social events, and in-person retreats in partnership with the Senior Project ManagerLead reputed company’s DEI efforts within operational and HR functions, ensuring our policies and practices reflect our commitment to an inclusive workplaceOversee HR functions, including payroll administration, recruiting support, onboarding and orientation, and performance evaluationManage career progression frameworks, professional development, and team taxonomies in partnership with the CEO and Executive TeamCoordinate organizational relationships with benefits brokers and HR vendorsServe as primary liaison to reputed company’s outsourced accounting firm, overseeing the relationship and ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and quality across all bookkeeping, reporting, and financial planning deliverablesMonitor organizational financial performance and develop long-range financial plans in alignment with reputed company’s strategic priorities, in partnership with the CEO and BoardLead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the CEO and program leadership, ensuring resource allocation reflects organizational prioritiesOversee monthly and annual financial reporting, cash flow management, and financial forecastingOversee the annual audits for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4), coordinating with the Board Treasurers and external auditorsMaintain financial records in accordance with GAAP, IRS, and state requirements, including fund accounting and grant-specific trackingEnsure accuracy and compliance across payroll, employee benefits, and business insuranceSupport the timely processing of grant proposals, grant reports, invoicing, and gift acknowledgmentsEngage with the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and key external stakeholders around organizational health, financial performance, and long-term sustainabilityPrepare materials for Board meetings and key external stakeholder engagementsExecute OKR and KPI-setting processes, ensuring alignment with reputed company’s strategic planIdentify, select, and manage consultants and professional service firms to supplement organizational expertise as neededSkills10–20 years of progressive experience in finance, operations, and organizational management, with meaningful experience in nonprofit or advocacy settingsStrong background in and passion for building healthy cultures and teams, and for cultivating employee wellness and growthDemonstrated expertise in nonprofit financial management, including GAAP compliance, fund accounting, audit oversight, grant reporting, and experience managing affiliated 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entitiesFamiliarity with lobbying expenditure tracking and campaign finance compliance across c3/c4 structuresProven track record managing outsourced vendors and professional service firms across accounting, legal, and HRExperience overseeing HR functions including compliance, compensation, performance management, and organizational developmentExcellent written and verbal communication skills;
